Award-winning and Stonehurst Place Bed & Breakfast was restored to
standards required by the GA State Historic Preservation Office, US
Department of Interior, not-for-profit Southface and EarthCraft House.
Modern aesthetics were combined with historic renovation work, solar
thermal and greywater technologies.

Be inspired at Stonehurst Place, winner of the prestigious EarthCraft
Home and Southface 2008 Renovation Project of the Year for John Wesley
Hammer’s eco-friendly transformation.

This 1896 National Register historic mansion kept its period feel
after our installation of modern rainwater harvesting systems,
unobtrusive mounting of ten solar thermal panels that heat hot water
used throughout the bed and breakfast inn, and a greywater recycling
system to conserve water by safely re-using treated greywater for
toilet flushing.

Industry-leading guidelines published by not-for-profit Southface’s
EarthCraft House™ renovation program, the GA State Historic
Preservation Office, the US Department of Interior and the Green Hotel
Association were followed in this renovation by John Wesley Hammer.

Elements of this high-tech and energy-conscious project include
historically sensitive renovation design, incorporation of whole-house
icynene insulation to reduce energy use, installation of efficient
HVAC systems, use of low-VOC materials to improve air quality, and
rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling to lower water usage.
